Shakti Shalini’s Survivor Support Helpline
As of 1st August 2025, in a significant step towards ensuring uninterrupted, survivor-centric support, Shakti Shalini, supported by Accor, proudly expands its Helpline for survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) into a 24×7 service. The expanded service is now operational, offering round-the-clock assistance to individuals across India.
Established in 1987, Shakti Shalini continues to pioneer grassroots intervention on issues of SGBV and holistic survivor support in India. The organization has been running a helpline service from 10 AM to 6 PM every day. This transition to a 24×7 helpline marks a transformative moment in its ongoing commitment to gender justice, recognizing that violence does not abide by the clock, and that survivors deserve support at any hour.
A dedicated team of trained Helpline Social Workers, led by a Helpline Coordinator, responds to distress calls from across India. The team refers survivors to the counseling team, which includes Shakti Shalini’s counselors. All survivor-related interventions are led by Shakti Shalini’s Survivor Support Lead.
Survivors can reach out directly through the helpline numbers. They may also connect via social media, email, or through referrals from police, courts, NGOs, and partner networks, and are referred to our helpline team.
Shakti Shalini is equipped to respond to various forms of SGBV, including domestic violence (natal and/or marital), sexual assault, trafficking (domestic or cross-border), sexual harassment (workplace, cyber, other), and gender discrimination. Shakti Shalini recognizes all types of SGBV, from physical and sexual to verbal, psycho-emotional, financial, social, and institutional.
The Helpline responds to all survivors, irrespective of their gender, sex, or sexual orientation, residing across the territory of India, whether citizens, refugees, or trafficking victims.
The 24×7 helpline offers a free-of-cost, holistic suite of services, including rescue support and crisis intervention, legal counseling and litigation aid, mental, physical, sexual, and reproductive health aid, shelter and safe space, education, skilling, livelihoods, housing aid, social mediation, support services for children of survivors, and a minimum of one year of follow-up with each survivor.
Operating out of New Delhi, the helpline provides PAN-India support, reaffirming our commitment to building a compassionate and accessible support system—always within reach, regardless of hour, geography, or circumstance.
Shakti Shalini’s 24×7 Helpline represents a model of integrated, inclusive, and survivor-led response. The project’s design places the choices, agency, self-determination, and dignity of survivors at the center, offering not just intervention, but the potential for long-term healing, empowerment, and independence.
