About Shakti Shalini’s Child Protection Unit (CPU):
The Child Protection Unit at Shakti Shalini supports children of survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). CPU understand that the children of survivors of SGBV are themselves either direct victims of violence or indirect victims as witnesses of violence. Violence becomes normalised for children who grow up in environments of SGBV and they can further grow to be victims, perpetrators, or victim-perpetrators of violence. Thus, violence is passed on circularly through generations. CPU works to break inter-generational cycles of violence. It provides children mental healthcare, physical healthcare, education aid, and play-based interventions. CPU also works with the primary caregivers of the children to strengthen their parenting skills and foster the healthiest possible environment for the child. It works with children and their primary caregiving unit with a restorative and trauma-informed approach to address the impact of violence
