Shakti Shalini is a Delhi-based NGO founded in 1987 that responds to gender and sexual violence, discrimination, and inequality via survivor support services, preventative programs, educational enhancement, literary productions, and media outreach.
Job Title: Media and Communications Associate, Media Outreach, Shakti Shalini
Job Status: Full-Time, Monday to Friday, 10:00am-6:00pm
Remuneration and Probation: Probation will be six months. Salary will be INR 33,000/- during probation. And INR 35,000/- post probation.

About The Program:
Media Outreach at Shakti Shalini is a program with a vision and mission to mobilise across media and communication platforms to generate and nurture conversation and dialogue around the subjects of gender, sex, sexuality, identity and self, violence and abuse, trauma, mental/ physical/ sexual/ reproductive health, the feminist movement, intersectionality, safety, constitutional and human rights, support services, community and solidarity building. It has a mandate to challenge patriarchal, authoritarian, undemocratic, and exclusionary narratives across media and communication platforms and make a vehement ideological intervention in favor of gender equality, and a democratic and inclusive order. The media and comms program has four major activities – social media mobilisation, news media mobilisation, media collaborations, survivor facilitation.
Designation: Media and Communications Associate
In this position, you’ll work closely with the Media and Communications Executive to provide critical support to Shakti Shalini’s media and communications platforms by drafting content for social media networks, editing videos and posts, providing writing support,, coordinating with team members, covering on-field activities, maintaining documentation and data, and generally providing support in expanding Shakti Shalini’s cohort of journalists,news media houses, media collaborations, and digital artists to ensure maximum awareness of the cause of gender equality.
Skills Required
- Good communication skills in English (Reading, Writing, Speaking)
- Good communication skills in Hindi (Reading, Writing, Speaking)
- Comfortable working with various multi-media platforms
- Should be familiar with social media.
- Understanding of graphic softwares would be a plus.
- Can write copies, create and curate content for all social media in static, textual, audio video and interesting user friendly formats
- Possess image and video editing skills
- Must exhibit proficiency in using Canva, photoshop and mobile based video editing apps.
- Can edit videos, know basic overlays, transitions, cuts etc. Knowledge of premier pro or video editing apps would be a plus.
- Committed to making an impact at the grassroots level, which includes being patient and accommodating towards the challenges and complexities of working with marginalised communities.
- Committed to the mission of gender quality, and fighting gender/ sexual violence at the grassroots level.
- A strong critical thinker with an understanding of gender, violence, femininity, sex, sexuality, health, rights, and freedoms.
- Able to work with individuals of different age groups, religions, castes and tribes, and educational levels.
- Able to work with principles of equality, critical thinking, dignity, agency, regular awareness and sensitisation, and confidence and self-esteem raising.
- Able to maintain a non-judgmental, empathetic, understanding and respectful approach in all their work.
- Good people, relational, and communication skills to be able to create and nurture bonds of trust and care.
- Able to work every day with very limited resources
- Someone who is interested in telling stories through art and technology.
- – A passion for staying up to date with design trends and technologies.
- Can commit for the next 11 months
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Work collectively with Media and Communication Executive on curating content, collaterals for maximum impact via Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, and any other social media platforms.
- Creatively design and implement social media campaigns for generating awareness and conversations to further gender equality.
- Creatively design invites, posters, IEC material, and merchandise whenever required.
- Assist in video editing projects, ensuring high-quality and engaging content.
- Work with the Media and Communication Executive to identify and create content (textual/ audio-visual) across programs to represent the organisation’s work on social media.
- Assist media and communication executive in planning online events (webinars, talks, digital storytelling, etc.,) as well as host them.
- Work towards creating a photo bank which will involve pictures from Shakti Shalini’s various programmes and projects.
- Build, maintain and update media contact list.
- Assist in creating monthly newsletter which includes data and updates from different projects.
- Facilitate filmmakers, documentary shoots, and photoshoots being carried out by partnering experts.
- Engage one on one in comments and messages with individuals who reach out to Shakti Shalini on social media.
- Facilitate survivors who reach out for support on social media to connect with counselors.
- media-related activities and communications material/ requirements for any events held by the organisation.
- Ensure proper data management and documentation of the media outreach.
- Track and analyze performance matrix, insights and engagement on a monthly basis
- Participate in all pan-organisational events, activities, and meetings.
Eligibility:
Academic: The candidate must have a graduate degree. An educational background in communications/ media/ humanities/ arts/ social sciences/gender studies is preferred.
Work experience: Must have a minimum of 1-2 years of experience (preferably in relation to social causes.)
Reporting:
Report to the Media and Communications Executive, Shakti Shalini.
